Welcome Fellow Rockhounders!

Thank you for visiting! There are two ways to view/navigate this site:

1. You can simply read this in blog format and follow my adventures on the home page section of the site here (while referencing the “locations” page to coordinate where each of these locations lie on the map),

or

2. You can use this as a general reference guide by clicking any of the additional pages listed at the top for further information (locations, minerals, photos, etc.).

Please let me know if you notice any errors or if I am totally off base with anything. I am a total noob when it comes to this hobby and I am always looking to learn more and more. Please enjoy and again thank you for visiting…

  1. Like your website, thanks for bringing up some new locations that I have not been aware of. I Live in Denver, CO but grew up in Ogden, graduate of Weber State etc. Will be visiting family the end of August and September, from Ogden on the way to Moab I’m going to try and hit a couple of areas you mention. The mine in the La Sal Mountains caught my eye too, I knew there was azurite up there but didn’t know there was a working mine that a person could collect. Thanks!

    1. Thanks John! Sorry for the late response ha ha ha. Yeah, there are some great areas around Moab. I’ve always wanted to spend more time around the Yellow Cat Flat and Poison Strip areas. It seems like it has been hit pretty hard down there being so close to the highway, but I did still find an agate after barite pseudomorph one time that is pretty to look at 🙂 It is super fun to explore anyway and lots of area to cover. I’ve seen pictures of hidden spots people won’t share the location of with beds and beds of petrified wood, even the Yellow Cat redwood stuff that is supposedly pretty rare. I really love the variety of agate down there and am looking forward to a trip or two this next summer!
